About Us

“Forlorn hope: A persistent or desperate hope that is unlikely to be fulfilled. The phrase originally denoted a band of soldiers picked to begin an attack, many of whom would not survive; the current sense (mid 17th century) derives from a misunderstanding of the etymology. . .” – Oxford Dictionary
“The forlorn hope is not only a real hope, it is the only real hope of mankind” – G.K. Chesterton, Heretics

We are the publishing imprint for Creative Legal Content.

We also publish RR Hicks books and, perhaps a few other select projects.

Forlorn Hope came about because of a series of emails and a long conversation over coffee in Middletown, CT between Tony Horwitz and Forlorn Hope Founder Roland Hicks.

The crux of it: Tony talked about his well publicized dismay at the current state of the publishing industry before seguing to how, if he were starting his career from scratch, he’d take advantage of technology and just do it himself. With some tech savvy friends.

Enough said.
