Forlorn Hope came about because of a series of emails and a long conversation over coffee in Middletown, CT between Tony Horwitz and Forlorn Hope Founder Roland Hicks.
The crux of it: Tony talked about his well publicized dismay at the current state of the publishing industry before seguing to how, if he were starting his career from scratch, he’d take advantage of technology and just do it himself. With some tech savvy friends.
